Il futuro
You already know how to talk about things you are going to do in the future by using the verb at the present tense :
Stasera usciamo e facciamo le spese al centro commerciale. (We are going to go out tonight. We are going to go shopping.)
Domani i professori parlano del cambiamento climatico. (Professors are going to discuss global warming tomorrow.)
Next, we will learn how to use the futuro semplice (future tense). Let’s take a closer look…
Il futuro semplice
In English we place the word will before an infinitive to make it about the future (e.g., I will buy a cake for her, I promise; They will show up sooner or later).
(a) To form the future tense in Italian, add the endings below to the future stem.
(1) For the regular verbs, the future stem is just the infinitive without the final –e, and the mobile ending of the future. Remember that for first conjugation the A of ARE becomes E.
(2) Irregular verbs have fixed stems, and the mobile ending of the future.

Parleremo al presidente fra una settimana. (We will talk to the president next week.)
As you can see, the futuro semplice does not have to be about a distant future, but it implies a possibility.
(b) Of course, some verbs form the future tense with irregular stems:

(c) There is a situation in which you will use the future tense in Italian where you would normally use the present tense in English.
When a future action follows quando (when), we use the future tense. Compare the following:
When she gets here, we will turn off the lights and hide.
Quando arriverà, spegneremo le luci e ci nasconderemo.
But be careful! Because also present tense can express future! So if we can have a sentence like this one:
Quando arriva, spegniamo le luci e ci nascondiamo.
You need to maintain the same time in the two sentences. Everything at the future tense or everything at the present tense.
